Questions we get asked
Anything not covered here, ask us when we ring you back.
What does a tessellated floor cost?
Every floor is priced on its size, the pattern and the base it goes on, so we quote each job once we have talked it through. Send a few details and a rough size and we will ring you back.
How long does a job take?
Every one of our Previous jobs took between one and five days on site. A shower floor or a verandah restoration can be a single day; a new path and verandah together took about five. Each job sheet under Previous jobs says how long that one took.
What happens to my old concrete path?
It comes out first. A new base goes down in its place, flat and true, before any tiles are laid; on most new paths that preparation is half the work.
Can you restore my original floor instead of replacing it?
Yes, restoration is one of the things we do. Every sound tile stays where it is; the damaged sections are relaid, broken pieces are matched and replaced, and the whole floor is cleaned, regrouted and sealed.
Which patterns do you lay?
The traditional geometric patterns: Paddington, Glasgow, Octagon and Dot, Bristle, Nottingham, Raglan, Fitzroy and checkerboard among them, with borders such as Norwood, Windsor and Balmain, plus encaustic centres, doorstep panels and hearths.
Do you do bathrooms?
Yes. A tessellated shower or bathroom floor is laid the same way as a verandah, with tighter cuts and a fall to the waste. The Randwick shower floor under Previous jobs is one.
Where do you work?
Across Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The floors on this page also include Armidale, Ballarat and St Arnaud.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Our tilers licence number is 321989C, and the business has been laying heritage floors under its own name since 2021.
About us
BC Heritage Tiling was established in 2021 to do one kind of work properly: the tessellated and encaustic floors that period homes were built with.
The trade runs in the family. The patterns, the cutting and the patience they ask for were learnt on the tools, long before the business had a name of its own.
We keep the business small on purpose. A few jobs at a time, each floor set out by hand and finished with the same care, whether it is a single doorstep or a full verandah and path.
